Irenaeus was born in France in around 130-132 AD. After growing up in the Roman Catholic church, Irenaeus emigrated to Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). There Irenaeus studied under Bishop Polycarp before moving to Smyrna (now Izmir), where he founded a school. He eventually became bishop of the Church in the region and is regarded as one of the greatest theologians of all time
Among his many works, he wrote many letters to people spread throughout the Roman Empire.
Error, indeed is never set forth in its naked deformity, lest, being thus exposed, it should at once be detected. But it is craftily decked out in an attractive dress, so as, by its outward form, to make it appear to the inexperienced more true than truth itself.Irenaeus Of Lyons
